The Cinema Eye Awards, co-founded by documentary programmer Thom Powers (Toronto Film Festival) and filmmaker AJ Schnack ([i]Curt Cobain: About A Son[/i], 2007), are the first to recognize filmmakers working in the documentary genre for specific behind-the-scenes craftsmanship, including outstanding achievement in direction, cinematography, editing, producing, graphics and animation. The award, first held in 2008, are named for the revolutionary group of filmmakers led by documentarian Dziga Vertow.
